The Bears traveled to central Massachusetts today for our sixth match of 2012. With a tough loss to Taft still fresh on our minds, the Bears were eager to notch a victory. Thankfully, the 90 minute van ride didn't stick with us for too long and the Bears came out strong. The evens took to the courts first and #8 Chris Utz '12 continued to demonstrate his improvement this season with a resounding 3-0 victory. #4 Angel Maldonado '14 played some great rallies with his opponent and despite struggling to find a kill shot, remained focused and won 3-0. Co-captain and #2 Hank Hoover played a longtime friend of his from his hometown and won 3-0. #6 Matt Nelsoncouldn't find any consistency and struggled to get out from behind his opponent. He put forth a good effort but lost the fourth 10-12 to lose 1-3. That left the Bears up 2-1 as the odds took to the courts. #7 Jack Lewers '12 played some strategic squash and won 3-0 with some well-timed drop shots. The #1's were the next match to be completed and co-captain Hayden Dunham '13 won 3-0. That left the Bears up 4-1 and sealed a victory but there were still two matches to play. New to the #3 position, Joey Ross '12 couldn't find any rhythm and struggled to return his opponents serve. He fell quickly in three. #5 Sam Lewisalso took some time to find his groove and his win came with a 13-11 victory in the fourth game. That left the Bears with a 5-2 result and improved our record to 5-1 for the new year. The Bears hope to keep the positive energy going as we face a rematch with Avon this Saturday in our second home game of the year.
