Result:Loss
Score:10 - 12
Event Recap:
On this sunny spring afternoon, the Bears faced the Tigers of Suffield in what turned out to be a tense and competitive game. From the first draw, however, Suffield was on the attack, and did not relent for one moment. The Tigers scored their first goal two minutes into the game, and scored 5 consecutive thereafter, putting the Bears in a whole that they now had to climb out of. And slowly, but surely, the Berkshire girls clawed their way back into the game, thanks to some much improved team play all over the field. Hattie Waldron '13 and Christina Cohen '13 had two goals apiece in the first half, each one off of very smart offensive plays. Cohen really capitalized on that low corner shot, sniping it in the perfect place each time. Hannah Honan'15 had a great goal with 3 minutes remaining in the half, to put the Bears, making it a 9-5 score with Suffield on top heading into the second half.
The second 25 minutes kicked off well for the green team, as Honan was a feisty fire-cracker on the draws, snagging the 50-50 balls every time. Her great help resulted in two early goals from center Eloise Morrow '14 and Cohen with her third. Totally coming into her own in the second half was Isabel Martin-Hinojosa '14 who would let no Suffield by her uncontested in front of Berkshire goalie Logan Bell '15. Bell made some outstanding saves in the cage, totaling with 7 for the day! Also contributing strong efforts on defense were Olivia Mason '13, Anna Heissenbuttel '13 and Emily Hubbard '14. The three of them stuck hard to their players, and did wonderfully breaking the ball out of the defensive end. Honan had her second goal of the game with under 8 minutes to play, and Lexi Merison '15 had two fantastic goals hoping to beat the clock. The Bears should be very proud of their effort in that second half, as they outscored the Tigers by two, and narrowed their lead to two goals! But it was just a little too late and the final score was 12-10 with Suffield taking this win.
