Event Recap: Looking to continue their winning ways, the Bears got on the road one final time on a sultry afternoon. With momentum coming into the game, a previous victory over Suffield in their pocket, and a rested Grogan on the hill, the boys liked their chances in this one. Two quick runs in the top of the first, driven in by Nick Greco's blast to right center, got the visitors off to a great start. The hosts came out swinging in the bottom of the inning, however, adding four of their own. Things settled in a bit from there, Berkshire adding one in the second and two in the third to equal a fifth run added by Suffield in their second at-bats. Unfortunately, sloppy fielding by the Bears yielded four more in the third, with the Tigers tallying single runs again in the fifth and sixth. Mohib Amin relieved Grogan and kept the visitors within striking distance. Down six runs in their final turn at the plate, Berkshire knew they needed some heroics, and they got them. Facing a fresh reliever, the Bears' bats came alive, sending the young lefty to an early shower and summoning the Tigers' more seasoned closer. Berkshire plated five and had runners at the corners with two out, but the comeback was not to be as a fine defensive play from the home team snuffed out the rally. Although disappointed with the end result, the coaches and players alike felt good about the way the team hung in there till the very last out was recorded. The loss drops the Bears back to .500 for the season but with much to be proud of. The swag may have come up a bit short this afternoon, but there is no mistaking the fact that this was a "winning" season of baseball for nineteen young men and two slightly more seasoned coaches. |
