Score:4 - 1
Event Recap:

The Junior Varsity team jumped onto the pitch today with the objective to assert ourselves in the field and dictate how the game was going to be played, and we were absolutely successful in the first half. Berkshire slowly began to find the rhythm between the lines and soon brought its power to bear on the entire field. Good transitions and excellent combinations together with fast counter attacks through the middle made for a thrilling match, but the goals were not coming. The Bears insisted in making the final approaches through the center of the Kent defense and this proved to be a challenging task since the defensive gatekeeper was their best player on the field. Finally, and after numerous opportunities, Juan Escobar ’13 attempted a shot from the right side of the box that was deflected towards Milton Martinez ’15, who took the ball with his back to the goal, turned quickly and sent a formidable shot to the upper right side of the net. This was a “GOLAZO” that made the bench jump in awe. The Bears were playing comfortably outside Kent’s third of the field, but new scoring chances went unrealized until 30 seconds left of the first half. Martinez, situated 20 yards from the goal, scored again in the exact same manner as the first time - another impressive goal.

The second half of the match showed a Berkshire team still in control but playing more individually. Ten minutes into the half Sam Lewis ’13 sent a ball into the Kent box to find the foot of Max Hare ’13 who put it in the net. Kent tried to step up the pressure, but the Bears did not fold and produced several counter attacks that ended with great goal opportunities. During one of these incursions, Lewis was taken down by the goalie in the box and a penalty kick ensued. Thomas Harrigan ’12 redeemed himself by scoring with authority this time. After this goal the Bears became too relaxed and allowed Kent a goal from outside the box that should never have happened. Although it was a comfortable win, our finishing needs improvement.
