Financial Aid
Berkshire School’s substantial financial aid budget helps to support over 30% of our student body. Financial aid awards are based on a family’s demonstrated need; the process for applying for financial aid for 2013-2014 academic year is outlined below.
To be eligible for consideration for financial aid at Berkshire, you must complete your financial aid application and provide the necessary supporting documentation by January 15, 2013. Financial aid decisions will be mailed with admission decisions on March 10, 2013.
In keeping with most other independent schools, Berkshire School uses School and Student Services (SSS) to help process our financial aid applications. Based on the financial information you provide, SSS estimates an amount that your family can contribute to the applicant’s educational expenses. This third party assessment aids our school in making fair, objective financial aid decisions.
To begin your financial aid application for the 2013-2014 academic year, please follow these:
Go to sss.nais.org (Applications for the 13-14 academic year will be accepted beginning November 1, 2012)
Click on the prompt to begin your Parent’s Financial Statement (PFS). You only need to complete one PFS even if you have more than one student applying.
You will be given a username and password that will allow you to return to your PFS at a later time in order to update it before submitting it.
You will be given instructions about submitting supporting documents. Berkshire School requires the following documents:
a. A complete copy of your 2010 and 2011 Federal Income Tax Return along with all supporting schedules.
b. A complete copy of your 2012 return as soon as it is complete.
c. A copy of all 2012 W2s.
d. A copy of all 2012 year-end pay stubs.
e. Business tax returns (2010-2012) if you own your own business.
Additional documentation and information may be requested as we evaluate your file, including a request for a 4506-T form after the student has enrolled.
In the case of separated or divorced parents, Berkshire requires a completed PFS from both natural parents and any step-parents. In such instances, an application with only one PFS will be considered incomplete. Please feel free to contact the financial aid office directly to discuss your individual family situation.
Thank you again for your interest in Berkshire School. We strive to make what can be a complex process as manageable as possible for our families.
